What you are about to read is an introduction to my one person journey of creating Passive Income through a publishing business, which I founded when fighting with “Lyme Disease” and while expecting our second son while working the 9-5 JOB.
Today, I run the business from a small town back home in India, home to the largest temple in the world, always visited by folks from various countries to enrich their cultural and spiritual experiences. We were blessed to stay for large part of lives in the New Jersey, U.S.A (17 years! but due to my health and also the fact I being the only son, morally felt it right to move back to take care of them.)
I do not want to get in to super details on my life story, we will have it for another day. The only thing you have to know I was working a very stable software architect / project management job, earning mid six figure income, had just completed the very coveted CFA (Chartered Financial analyst Level 2 exams) and was ready to ride in to the big bad world of wall street.
Life’s Curve Ball
After working very hard, going to 2 top 10 colleges back home in India and then moving to the U.S in to various consulting roles at the Fortune 50 companies, life threw a curve ball, a Lyme infection meant I was staring death on its face, and was in a situation where I may succumb any time.
I went in to panic mode, not really sure if I have done enough to take care of the young family, my first son was only 4+ years old and second one was due in a few months’ time. I needed to create a system which can generate wealth even after I was gone and that was how it all started…
PANIC MODE!
At the start, I had no idea what I was doing. I frantically searched make money online, bought too many courses to count and kept on learning (Alert! BIG MISTAKE). On the one hand Lyme treatment was taking away all the hard-earned savings and the other hand I was too physically drained to work.
Develop a Plan of Action
But I kept going at it like a mad man until my mind and body could not take it anymore. I re-connected deeply to my spiritual beliefs which somehow was lost a bit trying to work the corporate ladder. It was then I calmed down and realized I have to create a system which is simple enough to be passed on to my wife and kids and thus I found the big great world of self-publishing.
And so, I did. Initially still not sure what kind of books should I focus on and how exactly do work this system to a stable revenue generating machine. But over time and with assistance from a fine coach and great course creators who shared their experiences and knowledge I was able to not only create a passive income business which made money when I slept (which was not much when I was fighting the infection😊).
I was able to work on my health, tried alternate practices, moved from New Jersey back home to India, quit my 9-5 JOB, take care of my parents, travel with the family, home school our kids eventually helping them find their passion and now have much better health as well. Yes, I even managed to cheat death (actually for the second time!) with divine grace.
Here’s what my One Person Self-Publishing eventually turned into:
– A $437K lifetime sales over the last 5+ years
– Profit margins of 75%+
– Fully bootstrapped with zero investment or debt
– 475000+ books sold on kindle
– 75,702,911+ pages read on kindle (75 million page reads!)
– Home schooling both my sons
– Almost unlimited family time
– Extensive travel with family
– Most Important was that I was able to hold my dad’s hand when he breathed his last.
I was able to take him to various spiritual places the last few years of his life delegating most of the work to my freelancers after systemizing most of the work thus truly experienced a passive income / freedom lifestyle where I was able to put family first.
My home schooled elder son has just completed his 12th grade exams, so after retiring for about 7 years from my 9-5 and running this publishing system from behind the scenes, I am now planning to share every single step I had taken to design my life after GOD gave my third chance.
The simple reason is he wants to share his knowledge and passion on Chess, Memory techniques and Speed Learning, so I decided it will be a good time to share my experience and build this blog along with his helping others who want to Quit the 9-5, Create a side hustle for added income, want to become more resilient, learn different passive income methods or just want techniques to home school the kids!.
I had to not only work on the self publishing, marketing and passive income knowledge but more importantly on the mindset side of changes. I will take you behind the scenes of my journey, the ups and downs so that you can model your passive income and lifestyle business based on my real world experience.
